Unifas Terms, Procedures & Otherwise Useful Information
If you have a question about planning or reporting, contact Glenn Israel. If your question is of universal interest it may be posted here for others to benefit.
General Information
Enter Grant proposals as non-DSR grants until they show up in the DSR database and get imported from there into the unifas system. A proposal should have the 'active' category selected for Status; responses for Type should be 'research,' 'teaching,' or 'other' (these are the categories used in the DSR database).
You can report professional conferences you've attended (or will attend) in the Personnel - Other Activity section. However, if you delivered (or plan to deliver) a professional lecture or other type of presentation at the conference, report that in the Publications section.
The Outcome/Indicator "# surveyed" indicates the number of complete surveys received, not the number sent out.
Reporting Extension Activities
- For Activity Days:
a) Select self, staff, or volunteer; both staff and volunteer are reported under an individual faculty or agent.
b) Days Planned is the number of days that you think are required for yourself, staff, or volunteers to expend for that activity.
c) Days Expended is the actual number of days spent on an activity by yourself, staff, and volunteers.
- When you are a resource person for some other program you should have an activity in support of what you do for that other program. This activity would be part of a larger program for which you are responsible. For example, if you make a presentation for an agent's program, the agent will list you as a resource. You also need to report that presentation as an activity under one of your Extension Programs. Hence, the presentation will be listed under My Contributions, and you will list it as an Activity under one of your Extension Programs.
Extension agents account for their involvement with boards of FAEP, FACAA, FEAFCS, Issues Committees, etc. as an Extension Program under Goal 7, Focus Area: Administration and Leadership. The Target Audience for your board-involvement Activities is "Professional Organizations", and the Primary Audience is the appropriate board.
How many days per year do we need to plan? How many days are to be accounted for during one year? Do we write a CMP for activities that involve only over 40 days per year?
A year is generally recognized as 232 working days. For planning purposes, you should allocate about 60% of your time (140 days), but this can be more (e.g., 80%) or less, depending on your assignment, emerging needs, etc.
Historically, a major program is planned around 40 days of effort. If you are a member of a multi-agent or multi-county team for a program, you might only contribute 5 or 10 days. Unifas provides more flexibility in allocating your time; the important consideration involves doing things that really make a difference in people's lives.
