The Situation Data Book contains situational information on a variety of key Florida issues and areas relating to agriculture, natural resources, family, youth, community, and marine sciences. It also contains census data relevant to these areas. (See hard copy of publication for census data.) This information has been assembled to assist you as you work with your advisory committees in the development of your county major programs.
In the use of the situational information, we encourage you not only to critically examine the priority and continued relevance of your ongoing programs, but also to look at new program opportunities that reflect contemporary and pressing community needs and issues. Be sure to scan the complete table of contents, as very often situational data from several program areas can be utilized in support of a specific major program.
The dominant forces in determining county major programs are county faculty working in conjunction with county advisory committees. The design teams, in developing and supplying relevant situational data, are also a key source of input. In most cases county major programs with common or similar objectives provide the basis for state major programs. That is, there are no state major programs until more than one county program focuses on the same objective(s).
We want to express our appreciation to our state specialists and design team leaders for their efforts in researching and writing this most valuable resource document, and to the department chairs and center directors for their leadership and support of this process. The program deans also provided invaluable leadership as they worked with design teams to get the information pulled together. And, we express our appreciation to the Program Development and Evaluation Center for coordination, word processing and layout of the data book.
Rest assured that your county major programs are the primary driving force in our state major programs. Excellence in Florida Cooperative Extension programming is based upon excellence in your local programs! Good luck in your planning efforts! We welcome your feedback!
