MEMORANDUM

TO:	Design Team Leaders
FROM:	Christine T. Waddill
RE:	Extension Four-Year Planning Effort

Once again, it is time for Florida Cooperative Extension to initiate a four-year planning effort. Perhaps you participated back in 1995 in that very successful effort, or this may be your first time participating in this process. Regardless, you play an important role in leading our Extension programs into the 21^st Century.

To begin this effort, I would like to ask our current design team leaders to develop a brief one- or two-page summary describing the critical issues or needs related to their program area, and the goal(s) for existing or potential programs. Further, please include the potential clientele for these programs. Also, where such exist, please identify any distinctions or differences of those issues or needs according to the specific area of the state. An example of a Situational Data Summary is included with this memorandum.

Please keep in mind that the identified issues, needs and potential audiences do not have to be currently addressed by Extension. Look at this as a new beginning--none of our current major programs are sacred if they are no longer relevant or of high priority.

The county faculty will use the information you provide with their advisory committees to help determine and prioritize local programming priorities over the next four-year period. This information was critical in the last four-year planning cycle and will be equally important information for this effort.

As previously stated, attached to the back of this memo you will find an example of a recently completed summary. Please note that the example contains:

• Description of Critical Issues/Needs (in "bullet" format)
• Description of Florida's Situation (in "bullet" format)
• Goal(s)
• Potential Audience(s)
• A List of Summarized Needs (in "bullet" format)
• Contact for More Information

When finished, please forward by February 22, 1999, a disk containing the narrative (in WordPerfect or Word format) to:
